The Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB Review

Dominator Platinum is Corsair’s top-of-the-line DDR4, and for a good reason, the memory makes use of a custom ten layer PCB with handpicked ICs and Corsairs dual-path DHX technology. Corsair will be offering this memory in kits ranging from 16 gigabytes all the way up to 128 gigabytes and speeds as high as 4800 megahertz.

Looks

Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB Review

When it comes to looks, we have an all-black design with a black PCB black heat spreader, and even the Corsair logo on the modules is black. Corsair didn’t just throw some plain old RGBs on these modules. They are using the new Capellix RGBs.

They are much smaller, use less energy but are brighter than typical RGB LEDs, and unlike most RGB memory, the RGB LEDs are actually part of the PCB. The Capelli RGB LEDs come as advertised. They are very bright and stand out compared to other RGB kits we’ve seen in the past.

Corsair is using square diffusers, which kind of give the modules a different and cool look. Even from the side, the modules look good. Each module has 12 LEDs, which can be controlled individually.

Software

When it comes to software for this memory, you’re going to be using Corsair’s IQ. The IQ encompasses everything that Corsair offers, like there I/O liquid coolers to the gaming keyboards, headsets and mice. It’s all done with an IQ.

You can see the memory in the App, and you can check the temperatures of each module. Under dim setup, you can go ahead and set your layout. You can do a 1 x 4, 2 x 2 or 2 x 4 layout depending on your motherboard.

There are plenty of Lighting effects settings that you can customize according to your preference. You can change different modes, colors, speed and brightness of the RGB lights. The RGB control panel is very detailed, and you can spend hours messing around with the settings. The software is great and works without any issues whatsoever.

Performance

When it comes to overclocking, you can slightly bump the voltage up to 1.4 volts. I was able to get an extra 400 megahertz out of this kit, bringing them up to 3600 megahertz, which is very impressive considering the tight timings of 14, 14, 14, and 34.

The Dominator Platinum is the highest or best memory that Corsair puts out. It’s a custom ten layer PCB and handpicked IC, so you know you have quality there. The heat spreader is heavy than your typical DDR from another company.

Final Words

When it’s all said and done, I think Corsair has an amazing kit in their Dominator Platinum RGB. First, we’ve been waiting for RGB lighting for Dominator Platinum for a while now, and we have it. It’s just the best that they offer, and they’ve made it better with the RGB lighting.
