Cooler Master MH670

Cooler Master MH670
Reasons to Buy
  • Well balanced and crystal clear audio
  • Lightweight
  • Excellent battery life
Reasons to Avoid
  • Trouble fitting 3.5mm jack into phone with case
  • Tight ear cups

Introducing the MH670 wireless gaming headset by Cooler Master. The package includes a user manual, warranty card, a braided USB charging cable with an angled USB-C adapter, a USB wireless dongle, a carrying pouch, and a 3.5mm cable.

Comfort

The ear cushions of the MH670 are remarkably soft, spacious, and deep, providing excellent comfort. Although my ears don’t touch the drivers, there is a gentle foam layer inside for those concerned about contact. The headband is also quite comfortable.

The ear cups offer full swivel, lie flat, and have adjustable in-and-out movement for a customized fit. While they are lightweight and may bounce when tapped, they remain securely in place during gameplay, ensuring no movement.

Build Quality

The headset is mainly constructed from plastic, with the exception of a metal-reinforced headband. The plastic material feels strong and high-quality, while the headband is highly flexible, allowing for twisting and pulling without causing any damage.

Features

The headset’s controls are distributed between the two ear cups. The left cup contains the volume wheel, microphone mute and active buttons, a 3.5mm port for the detachable cable, and a microphone jack.

The right cup houses a 7.1 button to enable or disable the feature, a charging port, and a power button. The wireless capability is compatible with PS4, Mac, and PC, but not with Xbox, which requires the use of the 3.5mm cable. A downside of the 3.5mm cable is that it disables the wireless mode when plugged in, making simultaneous music listening and gaming impossible.

Sound

The headphones are equipped with 50mm drivers and a frequency range of 15 to 25,000Hz. However, I found the sound quality to be below average, with the treble being overly dominant and overshadowing the weak bass.

Even after trying various settings and equalization adjustments, I couldn’t achieve a satisfactory balance. Boosting the bass resulted in it becoming too soft and lacking impact, while the treble continued to be overpowering.

SteelSeries Arctis Pro

SteelSeries Arctis Pro
Reasons to Buy
  • Comfortable design.
  • Great audio and microphone reproduction.
  • Impressive battery system.
  • Wireless via USB transmitter and Bluetooth.
Reasons to Avoid
  • Poor noise isolation.
  • No button to adjust microphone volume.

The SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless are exceptional gaming headphones that merge the connectivity features of the SteelSeries Arctis 7 Wireless 2017 and the SteelSeries Arctis Pro GameDAC.

They include a wireless transmitter that also functions as a battery charging station, and even incorporate Bluetooth for added convenience. This creates highly adaptable wireless gaming headphones that can simultaneously mix audio from a console and a mobile device.

However, numerous users have reported that the hinges on their units break within a short time.

Comfort

Similar to the SteelSeries Arctis 7 2019 Edition Wireless and the SteelSeries Arctis Pro GameDAC, the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless provide a comfortable gaming experience. They feature a curved metal headband frame with ski goggle-like elastic for adjusting the fit.

The ear cups are large, roomy, and well-cushioned, with a breathable and soft padding that feels pleasant on the skin. Regrettably, the sizing is constrained by the elastic strap’s length and the metal frame’s shape, which may not fit all head shapes and sizes.

Build Quality

Despite their premium price, the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless exhibit average build quality. They closely resemble the SteelSeries Arctis Pro GameDAC with a predominantly plastic frame and a headband combining metal and silicone-like material.

Unfortunately, there have been several user reports of the headphones’ hinges breaking over both short and long periods. The plastic yoke area is prone to cracking, which can lead to the hinge entirely breaking off—a highly frustrating issue.

Unlike many other gaming headphones, the right ear cup contains a removable battery, and the headphones come with two interchangeable batteries. The microphone is flexible, able to bend without breaking, and smoothly retracts into the left ear cup when not needed.

Features

These headphones boast an outstanding battery system. Two interchangeable batteries can be charged within the wireless transmitter when not in use.

They operate on one battery at a time, each offering over 15 hours of continuous battery life, ensuring you won’t run out of power during intense gaming sessions. The transmitter can display the charge level of both your headphones and the charging battery while you’re engrossed in gameplay.

Additionally, there is an auto-off timer that can be set using their companion software, and you can even use the headphones while charging. They can also be used passively with the included audio cable.

The SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless offer excellent Bluetooth connectivity. While they don’t support multi-device or NFC pairing like the Turtle Beach Elite 800 Wireless, you can still connect them to a Bluetooth device.

This allows you to listen to audio from your smartphone while gaming. It’s also important to note that apps seem to adjust for latency, so real-life usage may vary.

The non-Bluetooth wireless connectivity of these headphones is exceptional. Their audio latency is quite low, ensuring that audio and video remain in sync. They also have an impressive line-of-sight range, allowing you to use them at a greater distance from the audio source.

The SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless include a unique mini B 8-pin connector cable that plugs directly into the headphones. The other end features a 1/8″ TRRS cable compatible with most gaming consoles and operating systems.

The SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless come with a USB wireless transmitter base. The headset battery charges directly within the transmitter and is inserted like a cartridge.

To use the headset wirelessly, plug the transmitter into a PC or console USB port. Optical audio is necessary for using these headphones with the Xbox One or for accessing the surround sound and ChatMix features on PS4.

Sound

The sound profile of the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless is dependent on how they fit on your head. Factors such as their position, seal, and the presence of glasses or thick hair can all impact sound delivery, leading to inconsistent bass and treble.

However, once properly fitted to your head, you should be able to achieve a consistent sound. Additionally, you can easily customize their sound using the EQ on their wireless transmitter. They are also compatible with SteelSeries Engine companion software, which offers a graphic EQ and presets.

HyperX Cloud II

HyperX Cloud II
Reasons to Buy
  • Good battery life
  • Lightweight & comfortable
  • Extra pair of pleather ear cups
Reasons to Avoid
  • Lackluster bass
  • No software for customization

You might be familiar with the original Cloud 2, a best-selling headset of all time. Now, after several years, its wireless counterpart has arrived, and it doesn’t disappoint. The design is strikingly similar to the original Cloud series.

Comfort

The stylish all-black color scheme features red accents on the ear cups and yoke stitching on the headband. The ear pads and headband are equipped with memory foam and HyperX’s high-quality leatherette, ensuring exceptional comfort.

The headset sits comfortably on the head, and its weight distribution is excellent. However, adjusting the ear cups can be tricky, as they don’t move significantly sideways.

Build Quality

The aluminum frame provides the headset with remarkable flexibility and durability. Although the joints and adjustable mechanism are plastic, they are not easily breakable, but caution is advised. The heavy-duty braided cable with a 3.5mm connector and sound card are of superior quality.

Features

The package contains a mesh pouch for the headset, two sets of ear cups (velvet and pleather), a microphone, an airplane adapter, a 3.5mm cable, and a USB sound card. The cables are also quite long.

The left ear cup’s backside houses the power, microphone, and mute buttons. The right ear cup has the USB-C charging port and volume dial. The microphone is detachable.

Please note that the headset is compatible with PC and PS4 only, not Xbox. The sound card allows for volume, microphone, surround sound activation (indicated by a red light), and microphone mute control. The HyperX boasts an impressive 30-hour battery life.

Sound

The HyperX Cloud II features specially tuned 53mm drivers that deliver clear sound. These drivers produce excellent audio with a bass port up top, preventing muddiness and providing a solid punch.

Despite being wireless, the headset maintains outstanding sound quality. The spacious yet controlled sound stage is facilitated by the 53mm drivers. The 7.1 surround sound significantly enhances the overall audio quality, delivering clear lows, mids, and highs without any overpowering elements.

The high frequencies can be a bit harsh, especially with music. Unfortunately, there is no equalization option in the software. Despite this, the headset still sounds fantastic. One trade-off for higher frequencies is increased ambient noise, making the environment more audible. For example, in Battlefield, birds can be heard more distinctly.

In-game sounds like distant tanks moving and rocks caught in their treads become more noticeable. Battlefield’s sound design is exceptional, and although some aspects may be overly emphasized, it creates an immersive experience.

Razer Blackshark V2 Pro

Razer Blackshark V2 Pro Wireless
Reasons to Buy
  • Comfortable
  • Improved Mic
  • Amazing sound quality
  • 20+ hours battery life
Reasons to Avoid
  • Not compatible with Xbox One
  • Expensive

There’s no need to read the entire review to grasp the quality of the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro. The well-designed box and excellent packaging are a testament to its quality. Inside, you’ll find a manual, paperwork, Razer stickers, a carrying bag, a detachable 3.5mm cable, a detachable micro USB charging cable, a USB dongle for wireless use, and a detachable microphone.

Comfort

This headset is cozy and comfortable to wear, with a light clamping force that isn’t too tight, allowing all-day wear without issues.

The Razer Blackshark V2 Pro is particularly suitable for those with larger heads or glasses, as it exerts minimal pressure on the frames. However, it may not fit securely on smaller heads.

The ear cushions are plush and covered in a soft sports material, with an inner pleather lining for sound containment. The headband is also padded with the same sports material.

The ear cushions are spacious but slightly shallow, causing ears to touch the driver’s interior. However, padding inside mitigates this issue. Unfortunately, the ear cushions are fixed and cannot be replaced.

The ear cups can be adjusted without a dedicated swivel, and the arm brackets can be adjusted in and out, allowing the headset to conform to your head’s shape. This headset is incredibly lightweight, weighing only 320 grams, particularly impressive for a wireless headset.

Build Quality

The exceptional comfort of this headset makes it difficult to take off. There are no pressure points, your ears stay cool, and the top of your head remains pain-free. Comfort is a significant advantage with this headset.

The headset is primarily made of plastic, with metal arms on the sides. The metal arms are about as thick as a clothes hanger.

During a basic stress test, you can twist and bend the headset without worry (within reason). Fully extending the headset puts pressure on the plastic brackets where the metal arms go inside.

When fully extended, the wire connecting the headband to the ear pad gets slightly pulled. While not a common issue, it’s worth noting.

The primary concern is the external brackets connected to the metal arms. When fully extended, these brackets experience constant pressure from the metal arms.

Features

The left ear cup houses the power button, mic mute, and mic active button. Additionally, there is a charging port, a 3.5mm port, and a microphone port for the detachable microphone. The volume wheel is located on the outside of the ear cup.

With 24 hours of battery life, this wireless headset’s usage depends on the volume and settings you choose.

The included wireless dongle is compatible with PC, Mac, Switch, and PS4 but not Xbox. However, you can use the 3.5mm cable with the Xbox.

One downside is that plugging in the 3.5mm cable disables the wireless connection, so you can’t listen to music and game simultaneously. It would be great to have both options available at the same time.

The Razer HyperSpeed Wireless technology ensures stable audio connections throughout your home, even with doors closed.

Sound

The sound quality, powered by Razer TriForce Titanium 50mm drivers with a frequency range of 12 to 28,000Hz, is exceptional. This frequency range is typically found in headphones rather than gaming headsets.

Like the HyperX Alpha S, this headset has separate chambers for bass, mids, and highs, allowing each to perform independently without interference.

The drivers produce fantastic sound quality across all devices, with natural headphone bass and crisp, powerful highs. The mids hold their own without clashing with bass or highs. The audio quality is comparable to studio headphones like the Audio Technica ATH-M50x.

Logitech G PRO X Wireless Lightspeed

Introducing the new G Pro X Lightspeed, an improved version of last year’s G Pro X model. This wireless edition showcases an award-winning design. Inside the box, you’ll discover a wireless adapter, a detachable microphone with a windscreen, a USB-C charging cable, replacement ear pads, pleather, claw films, a Logitech bag, and the headset itself.

Comfort

The ear pads are noteworthy for their size and depth, ensuring they don’t pinch ears or touch the inside of the driver. They are also soft and plush. The pleather ear pads provide better sound isolation, but they can trap heat and make your ears warm. That’s why the more breathable cloth ear pads are preferable.

Although the cloth ear pads are comfortable, they do allow some external noise to enter. If you’re in a noisy environment, you’ll hear it. However, the ear pads are easily replaceable.

The well-padded headband features memory foam inside the leather, striking a balance between softness and firmness, and maintaining its position.

In terms of adjustability, the Logitech G Pro X is flexible and holds its position well. The ear cups can move in and out, but they don’t swivel. Ear cup swivel is a matter of personal preference. The headset expands significantly and has a moderate clamping force, making it suitable for both large and small heads.

Build Quality

The design is relatively standard and resembles a few other headsets, including earlier models like the wired G Pro or G Pro X. The ear cups are made of plastic with a small metal Logitech logo. The build quality is impressive, and you shouldn’t have concerns about stretching or twisting the headset, thanks to its medium clamping force.

One potential issue with the design is the small brackets that connect the arm to the plastic notch. When you set the headset down, pressure is applied to these brackets, which could eventually cause them to loosen or crack unless you use a headphone stand.

Features

The left ear cup features a mic mute/active button, which produces different tones to indicate its status. Below that is a smooth volume wheel, which beeps when you reach maximum or minimum volume, as the wheel continuously rolls.

Additionally, there’s a power switch, USB-C charging port, and a mic port for the detachable microphone. The headset offers over 20 hours of battery life and a 42-foot range without lag or stutters.

Sound

The Logitech G Pro X was tested on various devices, including PC, MacBook Pro, PS4, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, using a wireless connection. Unfortunately, it’s not compatible with Xbox One, but it works well with other devices by simply plugging in the dongle.

A notable omission is the lack of a 3.5mm jack, rendering it unusable with devices that have a 3.5mm port. Primarily designed for PC or Mac, this headset isn’t ideal for consoles.

Equipped with 50mm drivers and a 20-20,000Hz frequency range, the Logitech G Pro X delivers natural and crisp sound, with balanced bass and potent highs.

Logitech G Hub Software

The Logitech G Hub Software offers numerous customization options, such as adjusting volume zones, enabling surround sound, using preset equalizers, or creating your own. With these options, you can tailor the sound to your liking.

The software is innovative and provides a wealth of options, allowing you to enhance in-game audio and create an immersive environment. Different presets can also be downloaded online.

Mic

A significant aspect of this headset is the detachable mic, which is sturdy and flexible, complete with a windscreen. As someone who doesn’t frequently use a headset mic, I appreciate the detachable option.

The microphone ncludes a Blue-Voice feature that automatically enhances voice clarity. You can hear the difference when toggling the option on and off. If you’re searching for the best microphone in a gaming headset, this is the one to choose.
