Overview

The Helios 300 is the ideal laptop if you enjoy high-octane gameplay. It’s a machine filled to the brim with plenty of top-tier components all aimed at the same goal, pure gaming glory.

At the helm of Helios is the high-speed display. The color-rich IPS screen is 15.6″ and has a 144Hz refresh rate with a 3ms overdrive response time. With a high refresh rate, the frame rate will be smooth with no tearing as long as you keep that frame rate high.

Learn more about Refresh Rate and Screen Tearing.

A high frame rate requires high-performing hardware, which thankfully there is plenty of. At the top of that list is the latest six-core 12 thread 10th gen Intel core i7 mobile processor and GeForce RTX design.

You can also deck out the Helios 300 with up to 32 gigabytes of DDR4 2933 megahertz RAM, dual 1TB PCIe NVMe SSDs in raid 0, and a 2TB hard drive for everything else.

For Acer Predator Helios 300, cooling is the first priority. With the 2021 model, they’ve added intakes on the top of the base to increase airflow. Predator includes the most advanced 4th gen AeroBlade 3D bands.

These custom-engineered fans are built to maximize airflow while reducing overall noise. But in my testing, they get pretty loud on max speed.

Some users prefer to use their laptops as a mobile desktop replacement. So all the ports such as mini display port, HDMI 2.0, three USB 3.2 ports, and one USB type-c should give you plenty of access to your displays and gadgets.

The keyboard has four-zone RGB lights with a few custom keys. With the Turbo button, you can overclock with a single press.

The PredatorSense software gives you immediate access to the utility app to adjust fan speed, overclock, monitor temperatures, customize RGB, and many other useful functions.

Overview

The MSI GL65 is the first gaming laptop that I’ve tested with Nvidia’s new higher wattage 2070 graphics card.

The lid is a matte black metal, and the bottom is plastic. Overall build quality is fair, and there are no sharp corners or edges anywhere. The GL65 is on the thicker side for a gaming laptop with this hardware inside. . There’s an MSI logo in the center of the lid that gets lit up from the screen’s backlight.

MSI GL65 2020

However, the width and depth are reasonable for a 15-inch machine. The smaller footprint allows for 7.5mm screen bezels on the sides. The 15.6″, 1080p, 144hz screen has a matte finish and uses Optimus, which cannot be disabled.

I’ve tested the screen with the Spyder5 and got 95% of SRGB, 66% of NTSC, 71% of Adobe RGB, and 71% of DCI P3. At 100% brightness, I measured the panel at 396 nits in the center with a 640:1 contrast ratio. So, pretty good results for a gaming panel but lower on the contrast.

The hinges are sturdy, but they don’t seem to be redesigned to be stronger like the GS66. It wasn’t possible to open up with one finger, like many other laptops from MSI. The battery is up the back with the heat pipes, but it still felt fine sitting on my lap.

The SteelSeries keyboard seems the same as many others from MSI. It’s got vibrant RGB backlighting which illuminates all keys and secondary key functions. There are four levels of key brightness, and you can also turn it off. I liked typing with the keyboard and had no problems.

The power button is above the keyboard on the right and shortcut keys to boost fan speed or change the keyboard lighting effect, but these can also be done through the software.

On the left from the back, there’s a Kensington lock slot, air exhaust vent, gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.0 and mini display port, USB 3.2 gen 1 type-a port, USB 3.2 gen 2 type-c port, and 3.5mm headphone & mic jacks.

On the right from the front, there are two USB 3.2 gen 1 type-a ports, a full-size SD card slot, power input but no air exhaust vent. The HDMI and mini display port outputs are connected directly to the Nvidia graphics.

The back has a couple of air exhaust vents towards the corners with leopard text in the center, while the front has some status LEDs in the middle.

Overview

HP is still going strong with its 2020 Omen 17 gaming laptop. It comes with the Intel 10th generation Core i7, NVIDIA RTX 2070 graphics card, 16 gigs of RAM, and 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD. It’s quite upgradable, and the bottom is easy to take off, unlike some of HP’s specter laptops.

It has a large 17.3 inches full HD IPS display with a refresh rate of 144Hz. The display covers 100% of sRGB, 65% of Abobe RGB, and has a contrast ratio of 1385:1.

HP has improved the fans on this laptop. They made fans a bit longer to have more air volume, and the vents are also bigger to allow more air to pass through. It has vents on three sides and intakes air from the bottom.

Previous HP Omen laptops that we tested got really hot and toasty while gaming, which is not unusual for gaming laptops these days with six and eight-core CPUs. But with this model, we noticed a difference in terms of surface temperatures and core temperatures.

HP Omen 17 RTX 2070 2020 Hardware inside

We tested Far Cry New Dawn on ultra settings, and temperatures went up to around 93 to 95 degrees. It can cause thermal throttle once or twice on the ultra setting, but for most games, it was fine. Most of the time, it didn’t thermal throttle, and the core temperatures were pretty reasonable in the low 90s to upper 80s.

It is a large laptop, so plenty of ports are available. On the left, it has a charging port, gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.0, mini display port, two USB 3.0, one USB type c, one mic, and one audio jack. On the right, it has an SSD card slot, USB 3.2, and exhaust vent.

The HP omen software is included, which you can use to change different performance modes, customize four-zone keyboard backlit, and more.

HP OMEN Command Center

The keyboard is good and has a nice tactile feel, but I like the SteelSeries keyboard a little bit better on MSI when typing. It has a Microsoft precision trackpad with two clicker buttons, and it works very well.

Overview

The Razer Blade 15 comes in two editions, the base and the advanced. The base version is cheaper, and the advanced version is quite expensive. But the base Edition doesn’t mean it’s a weak product.

Nothing much has changed from the previous version. It has the same decent-looking design with a Razer logo on the lid. The aluminum uni-body design is quite sturdy with an electrochemical finish that prevents minor scratches. Overall, It’s very compact and classy looking.

On the left, from the back, we have a charging port, gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.2, USB-c, and 3.5mm audio port. On the right from the back, we have a Kensington lock, HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.2, and Thunderbolt. There are no exhaust vents on either side.

The base model has a full HD screen with a 144Hz refresh rate. The screen is the same LG Display that they’ve been using. It has a brightness level of 353 nits, covers 100% SRGB, 99% sRGB, 76% Adobe RGB, 78% DCI-P3, and has a contrast ratio of 870:1.

The base model (2021) gets you an Nvidia RTX 2060 and 10th generation Intel i7 with six cores. You have 16GB 2933MHz memory and 512GB PCIe SSD. You can also add more storage with an open M.2 PCIe 3.0×4 slot for easy upgrade.

Razer Blade 15 Base 2021 Hardware

When it comes to colors, the keyboard in the base model only has a single color RGB backlit. You have an excellent Microsoft precision trackpad.

The Razer Synapse software is your one-stop place to control everything. You can use it to sync up lights on your external mouse, keyboard, or headset. It lets you choose between balanced gaming and creator mode.

We do most of our benchmark testing in the balanced mode, games, and 3D benchmarking testing in gaming mode. The content creator mode boosts the CPU, the gaming one boosts the GPU but not both at the same time. The fans can become loud at max speed.

This laptop has Nvidia Optimus switchable graphics, so it’ll use the Intel UHD 630 graphics when you’re not gaming and pushing it hard to save battery life. The battery life also depends on the usage, but for a light productivity work with brightness set at 150 nits, it averaged around five and a half to six hours.

Speakers on this are unchanged from last gen. They’re fairly loud for a 15-inch laptop and produce good bass. Overall speakers are reasonably good.

That’s the overview for Razer Blade 15 2021 edition. As always, the things to like about it are the impeccable build quality and deliver pretty good performance.

Dell G7 4K OLED RTX 2070MQ

Dell G7 4K OLED RTX 2070MQ

Visit Dell G7 4K OLED RTX 2070MQ for in-depth review.

Overview

On paper, Dell has done a great job delivering one of the best gaming laptops for gamers and content creators. But is it really good enough? Let find out.

Looking at the design, it has a nice build quality with a metal finish. I didn’t like the hinge design because it is known to break down sooner than traditional design.

It comes with an Intel Core i7 10750h with 16 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM and Nvidia RTX 2070MQ with eight gigabytes of VRAM.

This Dell G7 variant has a 15.6 inch, 4K OLED, 60Hz screen. A low refresh rate might not be acceptable for gamers who play online competitive games. But If you are OK with a 60hz screen, it has the best display you can get on a gaming laptop.

The display is really vivid and goes up to 400 nits. This screen renders a Delta E of 2.09 on average, has a contrast ratio of 100k:1, and scores 100% on the RGB scale, 96% of Adobe RGB, and 98% of DCI P3.

The keyboard is really nice to type and has a big trackpad. Even the speakers are good on this, considering the 15.6″ laptop size. This variant comes with Alienware software, from where you can customize your keyboard and sound settings.

Dell G7 4K OLED Keyboard backlit

On the left from the back, there’s a charging port, air exhaust vent, USB 3.1, and a 3.5mm audio jack. On the right from the front, there is an SD card slot, a USB 3.2, and an air exhaust vent. At the rear, from left to right, you have a thunderbolt (USB type-c), mini display port, HDMI 2.0, USB 3.2 gen 2, and gigabit Ethernet port.

The biggest con for this gaming laptop is the CPU thermal performance. It can get really hot. The 2070 GPU is only 80 watts and is fine, but the CPU thermals can cause problems. Maybe it is because of the thin design.

Dell G7 4K OLED Inside

I’ve tested G7 in different games, and the CPU was reaching 96 to 98 degrees. It would then throttle the CPU down to 3.0 GHz, and the frame rate drops to 15 to 20, which is quite annoying.

I would not suggest this laptop for serious gamers who like to push things to the limits. It’s for content creation who occasionally like to play games.

Final Words

There are a lot of people looking for an actual desktop replacement. They’re looking for laptops powerful enough, so they are not held back due to the hardware limitation, no matter where they are.

I love gaming and I have been playing games since the late 90s. I am very passionate about gaming and I always find the time to play different games. I started this website to take my hobby to the next level and share it with the world.
